WorkReddit's IPO Filing Is Missing Something: Cofounder Alexis Ohanian - WIRED (No paywall) Reddit cofounders Steve Huffman and Alexis Ohanian spent about eight straight years living together, initially as college roommates, playing World of Warcraft late into the night and later working together on the foundations of the discussion forums service now frequented by nearly 270 million people. But that history was missing from Reddit's sales pitch to investors published Thursday announcing its plans to go public on the New York Stock Exchange: Reddit's filing with the US Securities and Exchange Commission didn't mention Ohanian at all. WorkThe Jury: Murder Trial – this legal experiment might be the most terrifying TV series ever If you remember last year - wasn't that long ago, keep up - you might remember Jury Duty, a reality hoax series on Prime Video that was my personal show of the year. The format was amazing, so simple and so deft: a completely fake courthouse was set up in LA, where every member of the prosecution and defence, and every other member of the jury, was an actor. Then, at the centre, was the one normal guy who wasn't in on the facade, Ronald Gladden. It was an extraordinary logistical achievement, and the show simply wouldn't have worked if Gladden himself wasn't a sweet, wholesome, open-hearted person. But despite being played for comedy, it managed to say some interesting stuff about the legal system in the US. It showed how easily a room full of 12 people can be swayed, by a well-told story or a shared trauma or just ignorance, or how the importance of a piece of information can be based purely on the context of the day it was told to you. Again, I cannot say this enough: you have to go and watch Jury Duty.

WorkWorkOpinion | Samuel Alito Opened the Door to Reproductive Hell The Alabama court’s ruling rests on a broad interpretation of the state law in question. As Justice Greg Cook wrote in his dissent from the 8-to-1 decision, “I dissent because the main opinion violates this fundamental principle — that is, that the legislative branch and not the judicial branch updates laws — by expanding the meaning of the Wrongful Death Act beyond what it meant in 1872 without an amendment by the legislature.” WorkWorkWorkWorkWorkRussia-Ukraine war at a glance: what we know on day 730 Switzerland is set to hold a Ukraine peace conference “by the summer”. Most people are saying: isn't it chaotic. End of story." WorkUK lender trials ban on new holiday let mortgages for tourist hotspots The Leeds estimates it is in the top 10 of the 40 or so lenders offering this type of mortgage. However, some lenders include them with with buy-to-let home loans. Holiday let mortgages are typically used to buy properties that will be let out for short periods (no longer than 31 days) rather than used for long-term lettings, which is where buy-to-let mortgages usually come in. Work'Ruinously expensive': record number of inheritance disputes in England and Wales Amid increasing numbers of people living with dementia, she said family members were also increasingly challenging the validity of wills citing cognitive decline in the willmaker. WorkAbandoned pipelines could release poisons into North Sea, scientists warn Responding to DESNZ’s statement, Paton said it is “not reasonable to assume that flushing with seawater solves any issues. If the water is deposited back into the sea then it is only likely to increase the risk of contamination. If all of this water used to flush kilometres of pipeline is treated in some way to remove mercury, there must then be proof that all of the mercury has been removed from the pipeline walls. The need for transparency, collaboration and further research is clear”. WorkWorkWorkWorkWorkWhy Solar Energy Stocks Plunged This Week Travis Hoium has positions in SunPower.
