Remembering Nex Benedict

GLAAD joins people across America who are mourning the loss of Nex Benedict (they/them), a 16-year-old indigenous and nonbinary student who died after being beaten at an Oklahoma High School. Our team is in Oklahoma offering support to the local LGBTQ community and ensuring accurate, sensitive coverage in regional and national news.

GLAAD Media Awards in LA announces honorees and host

Global media leader, producer, philanthropist, actress, and author Oprah Winfrey will receive GLAAD’s Vanguard Award at the 35th Annual GLAAD Media Awards in Los Angeles. This award is presented to allies who have made a significant difference in promoting acceptance of LGBTQ people and issues. Additionally, Emmy Award®-winning actress and producer Niecy Nash-Betts will receive the Stephen F. Kolzak Award, presented to a LGBTQ media professional who has made a significant difference in raising visibility and promoting acceptance of LGBTQ people and issues. The Awards will be hosted by the multi-talented Wayne Brady on Thursday, March 14. This fundraiser will honor those in the media who have shown exemplary achievements in fair, accurate, and inclusive representation of the LGBTQ community and the issues that impact our lives.

GLAAD responds to anti-trans column in the New York Times

Recently, GLAAD responded to a wildly biased column in the New York Times by noted cisgender heterosexual Pamela Paul, who is renowned for her anti-trans content. As of February 15th, it's been one year since a coalition of 100+ LGBTQ orgs & leaders and over 10,000 GLAAD supporters asked the Times to stop printing biased, inaccurate coverage of trans people, to meet with trans leaders, and to hire trans journalists.
