Shell is suing Greenpeace in a multi-million dollar intimidation lawsuit, all because we carried out a peaceful protest on one of their oil platforms calling on the giant to stop drilling and start paying for the climate damage they’re causing around the world.

Like so many of us, the activists who occupied Shells’ platform all experience the climate crisis in different ways – from rising energy bills and flooding to heatwaves and typhoons. This protest took the fight for climate justice straight to Shell, in a way they couldn’t ignore. Standing with millions of people worldwide, who are losing their lives, loved ones and homes to climate breakdown caused by fossil fuel giants.

We won’t give up. This is Shell versus all of us.

The Big Plastic Count is Back

In 2022, an incredible 250,000 of us came together and counted our plastic waste for a week. We showed that nearly 2 billion pieces of plastic are thrown away each week in the UK, but only 12% is recycled.

Thousands of you shared these results with your MP, and called for achievable policies to tackle the plastic waste crisis. This helped put plastics front and centre when the Government came to set environmental targets. But so far, they’ve failed to act. 

That’s why The Big Plastic Count is back - and this time we’ve got an even bigger target in our sights. Countries are currently negotiating a Global Plastics Treaty.

Will you join us? The more people who take part in The Big Plastic Count, the more evidence we can gather to show that there’s still far too much plastic being produced.

We’ll then present this evidence to the UK Government and put pressure on them to back a strong Treaty. This is our opportunity to get a global plan to reduce plastic production. 

Calling all young artists

We’ve launched a new competition for young artists (aged 0-17) to design a plastics campaign t-shirt for the Greenpeace webshop!

You might want to create a design that encourages recycling or a design that showcases the incredible ocean wildlife that needs to be protected from plastic. The choice is entirely yours.

The winners will get a t-shirt featuring their amazing artwork – and their tee will even be available to buy in the Greenpeace shop.

5 steps to get a government that takes climate change seriously

A general election is coming, and this is our chance to get politicians to take climate change seriously. 

By pledging to be a Climate Voter, you are uniting with tens of thousands of like-minded people across the country. Together, we will send a message loud and clear to all political parties ahead of the general election: to win our votes, politicians must step up on climate action.

We’re winning thanks to you

Only a couple of months into the new year we've had a big win for wildlife and nature.

In January, the UK government announced a ban on disposable vapes – thanks in part to the nearly 250,000 of you who demanded action and signed our petition. 

And a few weeks ago the UK government banned sand eel fishing. This also wouldn’t have been possible without people like you. 

Thank you for taking action and delivering a great win for nature and the UK’s ocean wildlife. 

Global Oceans Treaty Petition

Together, last year we won a Global Ocean Treaty which can create a network of ocean sanctuaries that are off limits to threats like deep sea mining, oil drilling and industrial fishing to help our oceans recover, thrive and fight climate change. 

Now it’s time to make it count and ensure the treaty is signed into law. The UK must show leadership and take action immediately by implementing the treaty. Join the global movement and tell the UK government to deliver ocean protection now. 

Fossil fuels have no place in sports

The fossil fuel industry has no place in our beloved sports yet we see giants such as TotalEnergies sponsoring the Rugby World Cup, the Africa Cup of Nations and more. It’s ironic that TotalEnergies is sponsoring the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), while causing devastation to communities and landscapes across Africa.
