With Mother’s Day just two weeks away on Sunday 10th March, we’re celebrating mums around the world – not least those Born Free supports in the animal kingdom.
This time last year, we were eagerly keeping tabs on Teso the rhino, part of our Rhino Family in Kenya, who was pregnant with her second calf. We are thrilled that after a long 16-month gestation period, she gave birth to a beautiful baby girl, and both mother and baby are doing great!

Last year was also a bumper year for births in Elsa’s Pride, the lions we monitor in Meru National Park. It's now the biggest pride in the park! Thanks to the support of adopters, our Pride of Meru team is keeping tabs on how all the mums and babies are doing, and we look forward to seeing their family bonds develop.

Unfortunately, many of the animals Born Free rescues have lost, or have been taken from, their mums, like TimTom, the orangutan. But, with your support, our partners around the world are able to provide new homes and families for orphaned young animals, and TimTom is really thriving at Camp Buluh in Indonesia, where the Orangutan Foundation is teaching her all the essential skills she needs to eventually be released back to the wild.
