Friend,
As Hoosiers, we may be hunkered down, but that doesn’t mean that we’re slowing down! Governor Holcomb updated Hoosiers again today, and he said that he’s inspired by the stories he’s hearing of Hoosiers across our state who are social distancing – but not social isolating: “I hope you continue to be as inspired on a daily basis to read the stories from border to border, from Lake Michigan to the Ohio River, it's simply amazing to see the heart of Hoosiers who are hunkered down right now, not slowing down to meet the needs of their neighbors. And for as much as government is doing, it's individuals who are standing in the gap.” -Gov. Holcomb You’ve probably seen many of these stories. More than 1,000 businesses have reached out to your state government offering ways to help! We’ll send a bunch of inspiring tales of the Hoosier spirit – Hoosiers helping Hoosiers – to your inbox tomorrow. (For a preview, visit our Twitter page.) But now, we wanted to give you a quick update on a few more actions Governor Holcomb and his team took today to help our fellow Hoosiers impacted by the coronavirus. - Temporarily unemployed? Governor Holcomb wants to make sure you receive relief as quickly as possible. The Department of Workforce Development has suspended the required one-week waiting period before paying unemployment benefits, retroactive to March 8. You can apply for unemployment insurance online at www.unemployment.in.gov.
- Chronic health condition? You’ll be able to receive a 90-day supply of your non-controlled prescription medication.
- On Medicaid? You can use your benefits to cover costs of using alternative forms of transportation, such as ride-sharing, for appointments to see healthcare providers.
- Need a meal delivered? The Family and Social Services Administration has additional funding flexibility to allow for this.
- Local government? The Department of Local Government Finance has extended some of your deadlines.
You can read today’s full executive order here.
Thank you for helping be part of the solution during these challenges times – hunkering down, but not slowing down. And we’ll continue to do our work to keep you updated!
