What we already knew has just been confirmed by a jury in New York: The NRA and their former leader, Wayne LaPierre, are deeply corrupt. 

The jury found that, for nearly a decade, the NRA failed to properly run its nonprofit and its assets, failing to stop its top executives from misusing charitable funds for lavish personal expenses. Now, Wayne LaPierre will have to repay the $4.4 million he misused. 

Friend, there was a time when the NRA was untouchable, when their deadly influence in Washington ran amok unchecked – but now, we see the tides changing after years of dedicated work. Membership is declining, revenue is declining, their deadly grip on our nation is declining, and their corruption is confirmed.

This victory marks another fallen piece of the crumbling empire that was once the NRA, but our fight is far from over. Brady won’t rest until the NRA is done for good – but unfortunately, they aren’t the only bad actors sending our country down a deadly path. This verdict and its price tag are far from enough to counteract the carnage that Wayne and his corrupt NRA empire have fueled in our country, but it is a start on the road to accountability for an industry that has put profits over people for too long. 

Wayne LaPierre spent more than three decades leading the NRA’s reign of terror, leaving behind a legacy of corruption, deceit, and destruction. He made a career peddling the Big Lie that more guns make us safer, filled Congress with NRA-funded politicians, and made millions at the expense of countless lives. 

But, thanks to the tireless efforts of Brady advocates and New York Attorney General Letitia James, his dastardly deeds were finally put on trial. After resigning from the NRA in disgrace, LaPierre will now have to pay – literally – for his corruption and a judge will decide if he is barred from ever again leading the organization. 

Wayne LaPierre has tried to outrun and outwit the law but it’s time for him and the nefarious NRA to finally face consequences. We are seeing the proof that our dedicated fight is working, but it is not over: While the NRA crumbles, the NSSF is poised to fill the power vacuum and take up the extremist mantle. In order to end this epidemic, we need to overhaul the entire industry. Accountability will be the key to our freedom – and Brady is tirelessly working toward that every single day.
