Dear Friend,

You're Invited: In-person Town Hall Meeting on Monday 2/26

Image

I'm excited to announce that I will be hosting a Town Hall in Minneapolis on Monday, February 26th at 6:30 PM CT. As your Representative in Congress, I believe it's critical that we stay connected on the issues that matter most and keep you informed about resources from my office. I hope you will join us for this important chance to connect.

This event is free and open to the public, but we encourage registration.

“Examining the Policies and Priorities of the Wage and Hour Division” with the House Education & Workforce Committee

Image

At a recent House Education & Workforce Committee hearing examining Wage and Hour Division policies and priorities, I delivered closing remarks highlighting the contrast between the Biden Administration's pro-worker agenda and Conservative's attempts to obstruct progress for American workers. I called out GOP proposals that would cut critical Wage and Hour Division funding even as vulnerable workers face rampant wage theft and dangerous conditions. Conservatives should work with House Democrats to fight for paid leave, end forced labor, and protect children from hazardous jobs. I also entered letters into the record from major contractor groups and unions who made it clear that we cannot afford to go backward on our worker-focused economic policies. Ilhan on the Hi-Job – The Future

Image

I had the pleasure of stopping by The Future, a vibrant artist market and community space in South Minneapolis, for the latest installment of Ilhan on the Hi-Job. After meeting with owners Lacey Hedtke and Gigi Berry. It was inspiring to see The Future's inclusive creative hub that opened in 2017. As I continue fighting for legislation in Congress to support small businesses like The Future, experiences like this motivate me to ensure they have the resources and support to thrive. Our local communities are stronger when small businesses can open their doors, empower diverse creators, and foster connection.

Fighting for the Fifth - Constituent Testimonial

“When I turned to Representative Ilhan Omar’s office for help, I was completely frustrated. It was early February and despite several calls and three trips to the local Social Security Office, I still hadn’t received my October Social Security payment yet.

The problem began last October when I received a letter from Social Security that stated: “As you requested about October 6, we changed your direct deposit information. We will send your Social Security payments to the new financial institute or account you selected.”

I had not made that request!

We were frustrated! We shared our frustration with our adult sons. Both suggested we call our congressional representatives, but we were skeptical. They showed us Representative Ilhan Omar’s home page that listed the services of her office. We hadn’t known that our congressional offices provide this kind of help.

My wife gathered the material and emailed it to Representative Omar’s office Wednesday Feb. 7. We received a call back that very afternoon from the district office manager informing us that she had contacted Social Security. The next day she sent a copy of the response from SS that promised the payment would be direct deposited within 5 days.

The following Friday the payment was deposited into my account.

What we had worked at for three months was resolved in three days! We were amazed and thankful.”
