John,
If you’re like me, you’ve watched in utter disbelief as Alabama’s Supreme Court ruled that frozen embryos, used in the process of in vitro fertilization, are classified as people under Alabama state law.
In the two days since the ruling, we have seen shock waves reverberate throughout the country, as IVF clinics suspend operations in Alabama, families in the state start to panic, and people across the country wonder if this is yet another harbinger of more to come.
If you’ve been sitting on the sidelines and putting off your political involvement this year, now is the time to act. I am asking you to start right now with a donation of $20.24, because this IVF ruling makes it crystal clear: overturning Roe v. Wade wasn't enough for the GOP. They are willing to go even further to control our bodies and our reproductive futures.

As you’ve probably heard, the ruling could have far-reaching consequences in Alabama, including the possibility that destroying frozen embryos – a routine part of the IVF process – would result in a criminal homicide charge.
The ruling is based in part on a 2018 amendment to the state constitution about “the sanctity of unborn life and the rights of unborn children.” And today, the roller coaster continued as the state legislature said it would consider emergency bipartisan legislation to explicitly protect the IVF process within the state.
Our hearts break for the families in Alabama who are trying to conceive and thrown into a whirlwind of upheaval and uncertainty after this cruel ruling. And, we are also reminded just how much influence states can have over the most personal and essential decisions we make in our lives.
It’s never been more clear: 2024 will be a fight for our reproductive rights, and it will all play out at the state level. Thank you for standing with us.
