** MARCH CHAIRMAN'S BRIEFING
------------------------------------------------------------

My Fellow Orange County Republicans –

March has been a very eventful month for the Republican Party of Orange County. The March 3rd Primary Election was a success, and thanks to the hard work of our candidates, staff, and volunteers, all 14 of our endorsed candidates and ballot recommendations were victorious.

In Congressional District 39, former Assemblywoman Young Kim defeated incumbent Congressman Gil Cisneros outright, despite high Democrat turnout. This result got the attention of political pundits across the country and is a great indicator of further success when they face off again in November. Likewise in Congressional District 48, we are proud to have our endorsed candidate Supervisor Michelle Steel advance to November. Incumbent Democrat Harley Rouda failed to reach 50% of the vote despite running against Steel and 3 other Republicans. We are in great position to take this seat back and Michelle is the ideal candidate to get the job done.

All of our Republican candidates in targeted races on the congressional, state legislative and local levels had promising results that we can build upon for victory in November. We were proud to welcome California Republican Party Chairwoman Jessica Patterson to Orange County for Election Night as Orange County is critical to the California Comeback in 2020.

At the statewide level, the Republican Party of Orange County came out strongly against Bond Proposition 13, which was voted down by a margin of 53% to 47%. This is a big win for California taxpayers and a sign that our voters are sick and tired of the fiscal irresponsibility of California Democrats. All other bonds in Orange County failed showing voters of all political affiliations are tired of more taxes.

Here in Orange County, Supervisor Don Wagner was reelected to the Orange County Board of Supervisors, preserving a 4-1 Republican majority. Supervisor Andrew Do had an incredibly strong showing despite a huge Democrat registration advantage. He will have a runoff in November and is a main focus of our operations going forward. On the Board of Education, wins by Dr. Ken Williams and La Habra Councilmember Tim Shaw also preserved a 4-1 Republican majority. We take pride in knowing that our county government will remain in Republican control for years to come.

But we know we have deep challenges too. Senators Moorlach and Chang will have hard reelection battles. Bryan Maryott and Greg Raths are also fighting for us to regain Congressional Districts 49 and 45. Everything depends on turnout.

While we are very satisfied with the results of the March Primary, we know that this is only the beginning. The field for November is set and it is going to take a lot of hard work from each and every one of us to take our county back. That work starts now with our efforts to stop the Democrat let recalls of our Republican council members in Westminster in early April and Santa Ana in May. If you want to join the team, sign up today at ocgop.org/volunteer. Thanks to our new and improved digital operations, it has never been easier to get involved by walking your neighborhood or even texting your fellow Republicans to keep them informed. These efforts worked in this past election, and we plan on taking it to the next level during these recall elections and in November.

Due to federal, state and local health guidance our March Central Committee meeting was held via conference call. Despite the in-person limitations we got a lot done. Our members unanimously voted to endorse Irvine Mayor Christina Shea and Irvine City Councilman Michael Carroll for reelection this November. The Central Committee also unanimously passed a Resolution in favor of the Reducing Crime and Keeping California Safe Act of 2020. You can read the resolution in its entirety below.

Our country is in the midst of a major disruption to our daily lives. The threat of the coronavirus has caused many of us to alter our work schedule, schooling, and even the way we interact with friends and family. The Elected Officials Awards and Reception has been postponed to a later date, and the April Central Committee meeting will also be held remotely. Like many businesses, the operations of our office have had to change as well.

At this time, our staff remains hard at work but our office is closed to outside visitors. We appreciate your understanding and efforts to help slow the spread of COVID-19. Please remember to follow the instructions of local officials as we navigate through this unprecedented time. Our in-person voter contact has all transitioned over to remote contact via phone banking from home, mail and digital efforts until we can resume in-person campaign efforts. We have also partnered with the California Republican Party to host multiple virtual trainings every day.

If you need to contact our staff for any reason, you can give us a call at 714-453-0900 or email us at [email protected] (mailto:[email protected]) . Americans and Orange County residents are resilient, and we will overcome this challenge together.

Sincerely,
Hon. Fred M. Whitaker
Chairman, Republican Party of Orange County
