Severe Weather Shelters Open Sunday, Feb. 25

"Kitsap County, Washington --" Due to anticipated freezing weather conditions, the Kitsap County Severe Weather Shelters will be open in three locations on Sunday, Feb. 25.

Hours of operation will be from 6 p.m. to 7 a.m. except for the Kingston location. Guests must check into shelters by 9 p.m. Shelters who do not have any guests checking in for the night, will be closed. For details on procedures and rules visit www.kitsapdem.com [ [link removed] ].

Locations that will be open on Feb. 25 include:

*Village Green Community Center*

"This location is open from 6:30 p.m. until 6:30 a.m."

 

*Port Orchard United Methodist Church*

"725 Kitsap St"

"Port Orchard, WA"

"This location is open from 6 p.m. until 7 a.m."

 

*Silverdale Community Church*

"This location is open from 6 p.m. until 7 a.m."

People needing transportation to the closest shelter can call 360.373.3000 to arrange for a ride. Reservations must be made before 7 p.m.

Additionally, overnight sheltering is also available at the Salvation Army located at 832 6th Street in Bremerton. Guest can check in between 7 p.m. and 8:45 p.m. Call 360.649.6628 for more information.

Measures are taken at the shelters to prevent the spread of viruses, including COVID-19.

Severe Weather Shelters serve anyone in our area who requires safe overnight refuge when hazardous weather conditions are expected. Further activations are weather dependent. Call 2-1-1 for information about the Severe Weather Shelter Program in multiple languages along with details on how to receive text message notifications when the shelters open.
