Legislative Update

Last session's tax bill contained several mistakes that, if left alone, could have cost Minnesota taxpayers millions. This week, we passed a bill that fixed all but one of those mistakes. Unfortunately, when Republicans offered an amendment to fix a mistake that will impact businesses to the tune of nearly $15 million, it was voted down along party lines. This is very frustrating because both chairs of the House and Senate tax committees committed in writing to pass a fix to that issue at the "earliest possible opportunity". The earliest opportunity was during the debate on this tax fix bill, and instead of keeping their word and giving Minnesota businesses certainty on this, they're being left in the lurch while they wait for the Democrats to make good on their promise.

Constituents at the Capitol

This week I had quite a few meetings with constituents. I met with sugar growers from our area who were here talking about the importance of agriculture earlier this week.

I also met with commissioners and staff from both Clay and Polk Counties, talking about local government issues like human services, investment in EMS and public safety, and land management.

Later in the week I met with UMN Chancellor Mary Holz Clause and Tricia Sanders, as well as several childcare providers from Ada and Halstad.

Finally, I had several constituents visit the Capitol for the Health Freedom event.

If you're planning to be down at the Capitol this session, I would encourage you to stop by! I love seeing constituents while I'm here in St. Paul.
