Friend,
The U.S. Senate unanimously passed a $2 trillion COVID-19 stimulus package that puts corporate profits ahead of the interests of vulnerable families.
Though progressives in Congress won many key concessions from Mitch McConnell over several days of negotiations — strengthening unemployment benefits, adding oversight over bailout money, and supporting hospitals and caregivers fighting this pandemic — this legislation includes a $500 billion bailout to corporate executives. We cannot let up.
Our elected officials need to hear directly from us. Write your legislators to demand COVID-19 relief that puts people over profits.
We know this aid package cannot wait. Millions are waiting on answers on how they will pay for their rent, utility bills, groceries, and student loans. It simply does not go far enough to help working families and frontline communities hardest hit by this pandemic.
Congress’ work is not done until every family in the United States has the help they need to withstand this crisis. Our COVID-19 recovery plan can’t leave anyone behind.
Let’s be clear — Donald Trump has failed us. Instead of taking preventative measures to save lives, he wasted valuable time by downplaying this threat and pointing fingers at others.
In the coming weeks, we must hold Trump and other elected officials accountable so stimulus funds go directly to frontline communities and working families hardest hit by this crisis, not wealthy corporations. Our fight is far from over. Lawmakers are expected to pass another COVID-19 relief package as soon as next month.
Together, we must keep up the pressure to ensure none of our demands are left out of the next relief package. Send a message to your legislators now.
Thank you,
Ben Wessel
