Hey John,

When Speaker Johnson adjourned the House for a two-week vacation, he delayed any possible aid to Ukraine and any resolution to the looming government shutdown.

That’s right! We are still facing the same government shutdown that Congress delayed last fall so House Republicans could finish playing Who Wants to be House Speaker – Remember that?

A headline graphic featuring a photo of House Speaker Mike Johnson talking to Jim Jordan during one of the Speaker votes. The headline is from The New York Times on October 25, 2023. It reads “Vote Count: Mike Johnson Elected House Speaker After Three-Week Vacancy.”

When the House returns from vacation, they’ll have TWO DAYS to make a deal to keep the government open. They’re not planning on it.

House Republicans told Axios this week that they expect a partial shutdown for a few days beginning March 2. But if they need more time to cut a deal with Democrats, a full shutdown will take effect a week later.

This is a serious problem, John. Hard-working parents relying on SNAP or WIC to put food on the table will have to watch their kids go hungry. Millions of government employees will be furloughed or working without pay, some of them right here in CO-04.

We always bounce back from a shutdown, but at what cost to millions of Americans desperate to make rent and afford groceries? It’s a question we shouldn’t have to ask, and we wouldn’t have to if the most extreme Republicans weren’t in power.

I’m running to kick one of them out of D.C. and release MAGA’s grip on our legislative branch. Can you pitch in any amount today to help me protect our country from Lauren Boebert?

The last time self-serving lawmakers forced a shutdown on us, it went on for 35 days, cost us $11 BILLION, and left hundreds of thousands of working families one unexpected bill away from financial ruin.

We have the chance to flip CO-04 this year and help give Democrats the House majority. When we do, this refusal to protect Americans and our allies abroad will end. We can finally end an era of Congress prioritizing culture wars and party politics over the people who elected them.

Let’s flip this seat together and get Congress back to work!
