This week, the UN would have passed a resolution for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza. But again, the U.S. was the only country to veto it.

Instead of listening to the majority of Americans crying out for a ceasefire or complying with the International Court of Justice’s recent orders to prevent genocide, the Biden administration cut funding for UNRWA’s life-saving aid to Palestinian refugees—and worked with Senators to pass a bill that would hand over $14 billion American taxpayer dollars to Netanyahu’s genocidal regime.

And just last week, my colleagues in the U.S. House of Representatives passed a bill trying to criminalize our constitutional right to engage in political boycotts.

This is a dangerous attack on our right to free speech, which includes our right to criticize governments.

We can’t let government leaders trample on our rights or silence our movement for Palestinians’ rights.

As the only Palestinian American member of Congress, I keep reminding my colleagues that Palestinians exist, and we aren’t going anywhere. I won’t back down in the struggle for our shared humanity.

This week, the Biden administration vetoed another UN ceasefire resolution.

Once again, the U.S. was the only country to block the resolution—going against the will of the American people, and against the will of 153 UN member countries that invoked ceasefire measures.

This genocide of Palestinians is only possible because of U.S. weapons and political support.

Instead of listening to the American people, my colleagues in the U.S. House of Representatives passed a bill last week to criminalize our constitutional free speech right to engage in political boycotts.

Boycotting is a historical part of U.S. movements for freedom. To silence criticism of Israel, lawmakers in 37 states have passed anti-boycott laws. These policies risk eroding our fundamental civil rights that form the basis of our democracy.  

We can’t let them silence us or trample on our rights.

As the only Palestinian American member of Congress, I will keep speaking up for our shared humanity and our right to protest. My voice in the U.S. government is critical.

Within the past month since the International Court of Justice ordered Israel to prevent genocide:

• The Biden administration cut funding for UNRWA’s life-saving aid to Palestinian refugees, and is preparing to bypass Congressional approval again to send Israel weapons that will be used to kill civilians.

• Most of my colleagues in Congress voted to hand over billions of American taxpayer dollars to Netanyahu’s genocidal regime.

The majority of Americans are saying enough is enough: We want our tax dollars to invest in life, rather than death and destruction.

Instead of funneling taxpayer dollars into our military or militarized policing, we must invest in our communities’ basic needs like healthcare, housing, and childcare.

I won’t back down in the face of attempts to silence me and others in the movement for Palestinian liberation. I’m committed to working alongside grassroots movements for the life-affirming changes our communities deserve.
