Dear Friend,

The deadline for filing your 2023 tax return is rapidly approaching, and our office is here to help!

Given the hurdles many Minnesotans face during tax season, it is important to be prepared and file early to avoid any delays on your refund.

To receive your refund on time, and ensure accuracy when filing, it is important to keep these things in mind:

  • Gather all your tax documents well in advance of the filing deadline. Failure to include a 1099 or W-2 on a paper return could result in mistakes and delayed processing.
  • Review your return carefully before submitting it. It is important to review these documents for any inaccuracies or missing information. If issues arise filers should contact the payer immediately to request a correction or confirm the payer has your current contact information.
  • If applicable, renew your Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN). If your ITIN has expired, the IRS can still accept your return, but it may result in processing delays.

Furthermore, if you received a Minnesota Tax Rebate payment in 2023 it is important to remember that these payments do not qualify for the general welfare exclusion and will be considered taxable income. Additional tips for filing your 2023 tax return are available on the IRS website, here.

Remember, the deadline for submitting your 2023 tax returns is April 15, 2024. If you need more time to file your return, you can request an extension from the IRS, here. If you run into any trouble dealing with the IRS or are experiencing extended delays in receiving your return you can always contact our office for assistance by visiting our website, here.

Sincerely,
