There are reports that President Biden and his administration are considering restricting asylum at the border, a move made by former President Trump, with the result of endangering migrants and denying basic human rights for cheap political points.
This is not an actual solution. President Biden, who won the presidency on unkept promises, should be focusing on welcoming immigrants, providing protections, and rejecting all anti-immigrant rhetoric in our politics.
Our country needs to be a place that upholds human rights and welcomes newcomers. We have everything we need to welcome asylum seekers with generosity instead of hate — it’s time our government started acting like it.
