Over $900,000 Given in 2023

We're thankful for the individuals and churches who continued to contribute sacrificially to ministries in Mozambique. In 2023, the Mozambique Initiative received $902,414.52 for a variety of ministries, including education, healthcare, food and safe water in Mozambique. One hundred percent of these donations arrive in Mozambique thanks to the partnership between the Missouri Annual Conference and the General Board of Global Ministries of the United Methodist Church. This is even higher than 2022 when MI received $813,321! Since 2018, nearly $4.5 million has been given through the Missouri Conference for work in Mozambique. Thank you for your generosity!

Solar Goal Accomplished, 61 Solar Kits and Counting

Nearly two years ago, Missouri churches took on an ambitious goal of providing 50 solar panel kits for parsonages in remote Mozambique. Access to power provides the church and pastor with resources to help others charge cell phones, allow children to study after dark and encourage community in places far from electrical grids.

Through the generosity of many individuals and churches, as of the writing of this newsletter over $153,000 has been raised for solar kits in Mozambique! The cost of a solar panel kit is $2,500. Fifty was the goal, but 61 is the current reality and more donations continue to arrive.

Thank you to everyone who helped with this campaign! First Blue Springs UMC deserves a particular thank you raising $72,850 on Christmas Eve.  Look for more stories in the future about the impact of this investment.

44,180 People Gained Access to Clean Water in 2023

Eighteen wells were drilled across Mozambique last year. Some wells were in more urban contexts. Others were very rural. Of the 18, three were hand pump wells. Fifteen incorporated a pump and tower that creates a micro-utility for the surrounding community. The work of leaders within the Mozambican UMC, drillers and their crews, and your donations all worked together to bring clean water to 44,180 people. This is amazing! You can find a list of the wells drilled throughout the year in the 2023 Well Report.

Share the Impact of Clean Water

The Mozambique Initiative supports access to safe, clean water in Mozambican communities by drilling hand pump and solar-powered tower wells. The need for clean water is great in Mozambique: About half of the population doesn’t have access to safe water. Hand-pump wells and solar tower wells provide access to this life-saving resource in remote locations.
We’ve created resources, so you can share with your church group how access to clean water is changing lives. Download a one-page info sheet, shareable infographics and more at www.mzinitiative.com/donations/solar-wells

Teams to Travel in 2024

Four teams are planning to travel to Mozambique in the coming months. These teams will learn more about life and ministry in Mozambique and visit projects across the country. If your church or group would like to make plans to visit Mozambique in the future, contact Lucas Endicott at [email protected].
