As I was reading an excerpt from David Daley's new book, this quote really stood out to me. "UNRIGGED: How Americans Are Battling Back to Save Democracy" details the story of how ordinary citizens are reclaiming control of our democratic process through grassroots movements.
After a small group of conservative operatives manipulated electoral maps in 2011 for political gain, we have been experiencing the impacts on our democracy and daily lives throughout this decade. As Daley laid out in the book,
Democratic congressional candidates won 1.4 million more votes nationwide in 2012, yet Republicans held the House with 33 more seats -- thanks to gerrymandered districts in states like Pennsylvania, Ohio, Michigan, North Carolina, and Wisconsin.
When A.G. Holder talks about our work, he says we are undoing REDMAP, not installing BLUEMAP. Our fight really is about fairness and making sure the system works for voters -- not for politicians trying to keep their party in power.
If you agree that redistricting must be fair and maps should accurately represent our communities, I encourage you to support our work. And right now, one impactful way to do that is to donate.
If you've saved your payment information with ActBlue Express, your donation will go through immediately.
We appreciate your support and strong commitment to fair maps.
Thank you,
