There are more than 135 million people in this country who are poor or low-wage. While they make up over 40% of the U.S. population, their needs and concerns have been ignored by elected leaders for far too long.
Too often, the poor are blamed as a way to deflect attention away from the crisis of poverty. The narrative that poor and low-wage people don’t care about politics or don’t care enough to vote is a lie. There is untapped power among the 85 million poor and low-wage eligible voters in this country. We have a sleeping giant who can fundamentally impact elections up and down the ballot if we use our votes as demands.
Just this week, on February 20, our movement organized in 32 states +DC to demand their state legislature and government put an end to policy murder. Each state held local press conferences to share their plans for March 2nd.
