Gov. Whitmer Announces New Cabinet Members & Staff

LANSING, Mich. — Today, Governor Gretchen Whitmer announced Marlon Brown will lead the Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA) as its permanent director and Suzanna Shkreli was selected to serve as commissioner at the Michigan Bureau of State Lottery. The governor also announced additional promotions and hires within the executive office.

Michigan is on the move because of Michiganders who get things done that make a real difference in people’s lives,” said Governor Whitmer. “I am so excited to welcome Marlon and Suzy to their leadership roles. Both of them have spent their careers working to make our state government more efficient and effective. Additionally, I am welcoming some new and familiar faces to my executive office team. Together, we are going to keep our foot on the accelerator and move Michigan forward.”

Marlon Brown will serve as the director at LARA, effective immediately, after seven months in the acting director role. Prior to that, Brown was the chief administrative officer (CAO) overseeing the central services of the department including communications, finance and administration, human resources, policy and legislative affairs, and equity and inclusion initiatives. As CAO, he worked to develop and implement strategic priorities, policies, and procedures for the department. Brown also served as director of LARA's Office of Policy and Legislative Affairs. It is an incredible honor to continue serving our state in this important role,” said incoming LARA Director Marlon Brown. The work we do at LARA makes life better for Michiganders. Whether they’re seeking to start their own business or applying for licenses to begin their career, our goal is to make sure Michiganders have everything they need to be successful. I want to thank Governor Whitmer and the selfless public servants at LARA for the opportunity to continue advancing our mission of protecting people and promoting business.”

I’m thankful to Governor Whitmer for the opportunity to serve in this new role and I look forward to working with the entire Lottery team to continue this success.”
