It should go without saying that those who have sacrificed and served our
country in the military deserve the ability to access the benefits they
earned without being ripped off.

Unfortunately, veterans seeking benefits and other financial assistance
are often taken advantage of by claim sharks — unaccredited individuals
and organizations who charge exorbitant fees for subpar or worthless
services.

Last week, Rob and Senator Caroline Menjivar introduced a new bill to
address this problem and protect veterans from claim sharks across the
state.

SB 1124 would prohibit claim sharking, prevent anyone who isn’t accredited
from accessing VA computer systems using veterans’ personal information,
and make it illegal for anyone to overcharge veterans for these services.

sacrificed so much to defend us.
