Tenant rights are under attack. We are fighting back!

Dear Friend,

Tenant rights in DC are under attack. But we are fighting back!

The Tenant Opportunity to Purchase Act, or TOPA, gives tenants in buildings up for sale the first opportunity to buy their building. TOPA presents DC residents with a way to maintain affordability, prevent displacement, and become owners of their own homes.

Right now, developers and landlords are lobbying the DC Council to exempt most buildings in DC from TOPA. If successful, this effort could strip TOPA rights from approximately 100,000 tenants in DC.

What are developers campaigning for? They want all buildings 25 years and buildings with an affordability covenant to be exempt from triggering the TOPA process in the case of a sale. DC Jobs With Justice is mobilizing residents to defend DC's tenant rights. We are hosting a Citywide TOPA Townhall to educate folks about TOPA, dispel myths about it, hear from tenants who have used it, and take action to protect it!

Join us on Wednesday, February 28 at 6:30PM at the Festival Center to learn more about our rights in DC and how to defend them!

In Solidarity,

?
