While the planet heats up, they’re profiting at our expense.

Friend,
Fossil fuel companies are working round the clock and spending millions to keep us all hooked on dirty, polluting sources of energy – all the more to pad their profits and bottom line. Utility companies are trying to replace dirty coal-fired power plants with gas plants. Corporations and fossil fuel-funded groups are spending millions to spread disinformation to the public about offshore wind. And one of the biggest U.S. banks outright lied about its plans to stop funding oil and gas exploration in the Arctic
In short – they're betting people won't see through their scheme.
But that's where we come in to take down the fossil fuel industry in fights across almost every corner of the country: We're shutting down coal plants, blocking new oil and gas facilities, driving the transition to clean energy sources, and much more.
Blocking gas expansion in the Southeast. As more coal-fired power plants are retired in the region, many of the nation's largest utilities are pushing to replace them with new gas plants that will continue to pollute local communities and exacerbate climate change. Sierra Club is demanding accountability and transparency from energy companies and government agencies, especially regarding pipeline safety oversight during construction.
Rallying opposition to big banks destroying the Arctic. Bank of America recently broke its promise to end direct financing for oil and gas exploitation in the Arctic – a dangerous reversal that could encourage other banks to follow suit if it goes unchallenged. The Sierra Club is coordinating with local Gwich'in leaders and other partners to rally a massive grassroots pushback against the company, while we continue the urgent fight to pressure Congress to permanently protect these fragile wild lands.
Changing the conversation about offshore wind in the Northeast. As offshore wind becomes an increasingly important source of renewable energy, the fossil fuel industry is funding an insidious campaign to spread disinformation about its environmental impacts and energy costs. The Sierra Club and our allies are rallying supporters like you to counter the industry's false narrative and working at the federal, state, and local levels to accelerate the urgently-needed transition to clean energy.
Standing strong with local communities against dangerous pipelines. Enbridge's rapidly deteriorating Line 5 pipeline transports 22 million gallons of crude oil and natural gas liquids across hundreds of miles of the Midwest each day – threatening millions of locals' drinking water, tribal lands, and farmland along the way. We're doubling down on our efforts to shut down the pipeline before a disastrous oil spill contaminates the environment that countless people and animals depend on.
While these fossil fuel fights span across the entire country, they all have one thing in common: it will take unprecedented people power to win them. And that power starts with you, friend.
