Immigration becomes big issue in GOP primary for departing Patrick McHenry's seat

A Virginia-based conservative political action committee is backing Republican Iredell state Rep. Grey Mills in North Carolina's 10th Congressional District primary with an ad accusing his opponent, Pat Harrigan, of being soft on immigration.

The seat is held by Rep. Patrick McHenry, a prominent Republican and former interim speaker of the House who isn't running for reelection.

The 10th District covers Lincoln, Catawba, and Iredell counties and stretches northeast to include Winston-Salem.

GOPAC Election Fund's commercial says Mills is tough on illegal immigration and accuses Harrigan of being aligned with President Biden.

WG Discussion Points: Presidents' Day Inflation Scorecard

WG Discussion Points| David Winston

February 16, 2024

This week's new report showed year-over-year inflation (3.1%) coming in higher than expected. The new numbers have squelched the idea that inflation is behind us, with the clock ticking on the Biden campaign's ability to put his re-election back on track. As our nation celebrates Presidents' Day, we thought it would be appropriate to look at how President Biden's record on inflation compares to seven of his predecessors at the same point on in their administrations.

Overall: Our Presidential Inflation Rate (PIR) tracking shows a cumulative rate of 17.9% - nearly an 18% price increase since President Biden has been in office. His record is second only to Carter whose PIR at this point was 33%. On key household items, the cumulative rate of increase is even higher than the overall number.

On Tuesday, Chairman Avella and Democratic Strategist Fred Hicks joined Fox News Channel's Sandra Smith on the Faulkner Focus to discuss reports that the Biden camp is hoping that the President's upcoming State of the Union Address will be a "reset" for him with American voters leading up to November's election.
