I am not willing to sit here and do nothing.

Good Evening,

I hope you and your family are safe and healthy.

Congress is about to pass a $2 trillion dollar stimulus package to address the Covid 19 pandemic. The Bill includes a provision to send $1,200 checks to many Americans in addition to creating a $367 billion dollar loan to small businesses. While the investments in cities, states and hospitals are much needed, the provisions we just described are not nearly enough.

The bill includes a one time aid check. That check will not be enough for many Americans to survive this lockdown. In New York 5, our district, that $1,200 (the maximum you can recieve) is worth even less.

The Federal government has dropped the ball on creating policy to protect working and poor people.

The Governor of New York has said that, “This is not a short term situation...It is going to be four months, six months, nine months”. Working people can not survive for 9 months without help. So, it is now incumbent upon community leaders, organizers, local and state governments to take care of our people. We have a plan to help folks survive this crisis.

Our campaign is doing the following…

  • We are collecting toiletries, canned goods, hygiene products, water, gloves, hand soap, and hand sanitizer. Online stores like Walmart and Target are suggested for shipping supplies.
  • There are secure addresses around the district that you can either drop off or ship these items to. The locations are:
    • 72-03 166th St, Fresh Meadows, NY 11365
    • 113-12 202nd St. St. Albans, NY 11412
    • 109-52 160th St. Jamaica, NY 11433
    • 41 Franklin Ave Lynbrook, NY 11563
    • 22 Van Buren Ave, Floral Park, NY 11001
  • The items collected will be distributed each Monday between the hours of 12pm-3pm to vulnerable people in our community.

*Items will be collected and distrubuted safely by     staff with every precaution in mind.

If you are interested in helping out, you can do so by:

  • Safely dropping off supplies at any of the above addresses (only if you live near one of the drop sites and have the capability to do so)
  • Securely shipping supplies to any of the above addresses (recommended)

Or

  • Contributing to Shan2020. Donating today, will help us get people the supplies they need to survive this crisis

If you live in the district and are in need of any supplies or assistance, please contact us at [email protected]. We are here to help you!

*Important note*                        Only do what you feel comfortable doing. If physically dropping off supplies is not possible, please do not endanger yourself or your loved ones. If purchasing and shipping supplies is too much of a burden, there are many other ways you can help out. Tomorrow, we will be releasing our full phone and text banking schedule. That is a great way to help the cause from the safety of your home.

My community is hurting and I am not willing to sit here and do nothing. Our community aid program is going to help people in my district get through this crisis. Even if it's just a couple of rolls of toilet paper or some canned food, it can make all the difference.

Please help out today!

Thank you,

Shaniyat
