John,
By now, you’ve seen the devastating news: Many doctors in Alabama, under threat of criminal punishment, have been forced to stop providing care to patients hoping to grow their families using in vitro fertilization (IVF), all because the state Supreme Court ruled that embryos should legally be considered children
To be clear, this decision flies in the face of science, and it’s only the latest in a string of attacks from politicians hellbent on controlling reproductive capacities in America. Their agenda was never limited to banning abortion—although that’s horrifying on its own. Already in 2024, we’ve seen continued attacks on birth control, medication abortion, LGBTQ rights, and IVF.
The stakes couldn’t be higher, and that’s why we’re fighting so hard: our most basic freedoms are on the line.
And this state Supreme Court decision directly highlights exactly why our team prioritizes state Supreme Court elections – like the ones happening in states including Ohio, Michigan, and Montana this year.
This is a heartbreaking blow, and another example of politicians inserting themselves between patients and their healthcare providers.
Our work for abortion access is part of our broader mission: to achieve a country in which everyone can decide if, when, and how to raise a thriving family in a safe, healthy community.
Thank you for being with us on this journey to protect reproductive freedom – from abortion rights to birth control, from comprehensive sex ed to accessible family planning resources – and everything in between.
In solidarity,
Sara Tabatabaie
