John,
Upon returning from Ukraine, I joined CNN’s Wolf Blitzer to discuss former President Trump’s abhorrent comments about abandoning our NATO allies. ICYMI: Trump said he’d allow Putin and Russia to “do whatever the hell they want” to our NATO allies.
The former president’s comments endanger our national security and our closest allies’ security.
I traveled to Ukraine with other members of the House Intelligence Committee to meet President Zelenskyy and his leadership team and spend time with U.S. Embassy personnel serving in Kyiv. The visit affirmed what we knew — supporting our ally Ukraine as they fight for their freedom is in our national security interests. Putin will not stop in Ukraine, and the United States must stand steady in the face of threats to democracy at home and abroad.
As a Member of Congress and former CIA officer, I have taken an oath multiple times to protect and defend the Constitution, and I’ve seen how fragile democracy is, especially when extremists are undermining our institutions and sowing distrust.
I’ve committed my life to service and protecting our country, our democracy, and our rights. I want you to know that as Governor of Virginia, I will continue to defend our democracy and uphold our institutions in every way I can.
I hope that I can continue to count on your support as I serve now in Congress and, ultimately, as I continue this work as Governor of Virginia.
