Dear John,
I am excited to share with you some updates on how I'm working to lower health care costs for our community.
RECORD ENROLLMENT IN AFFORDABLE CARE ACT MARKETPLACE
This year, a record-breaking 21.3 million Americans enrolled in health coverage during the Affordable Care Act open enrollment period, including 1.7 million Californians!
More Americans than ever now have the peace of mind of knowing they will be covered in times of need. I am proud to have defended the ACA from extremists who want to repeal it, and I will continue working to expand its coverage.
This week, I joined my colleagues Reps. Judy Chu and Sydney Kamlager-Dove to share this wonderful news. You can watch my remarks here.
LOWERING PRESCRIPTION DRUG COSTS
In 2022, I helped pass the Inflation Reduction Act, which gave Medicare the ability to directly negotiate prescription drug prices with pharmaceutical companies.
This month, the Biden-Harris Administration submitted initial offers for the first 10 prescription drugs selected for negotiation and soon, seniors who take these medicines that treat diabetes, cancer and heart failure will see lower prices.
And in case you missed it, nearly 50 prescription drugs became cheaper for Medicare enrollees at the start of this year, also because of provisions within the Inflation Reduction Act!
