Dear friends,
My name is Moses Cook, and I’m thrilled to announce that I have joined FAMM as its next President. Recently, our founder and Board Chair, Julie Stewart, emailed you about my hiring. I also wanted to reach out to you and share a bit about my background, as well as the values that drive my commitment to reforming our criminal justice system.
With a background in non-profit management, criminal defense, and legal education, my professional journey has been shaped by a passion for transformative change and a dedication to challenging systemic barriers. I have dedicated my career to reshaping systems while advocating for those who have been disproportionately impacted in the criminal justice system.
As the Executive Director of Rising for Justice (formerly DC Law Students in Court), I significantly grew the organization while expanding programs to better protect our clients in criminal and civil cases in Washington, D.C. Recently, as the Director of Operations & Development for DC Justice Lab, I led the effort to secure resources necessary to advance evidence-based strategies to improve public safety and transform the District’s criminal justice system.
For over twenty years, I have worked tirelessly to improve access to justice for individuals facing legal challenges, particularly those from underserved communities. At every step, I welcomed the opportunity to collaborate with diverse stakeholders to create lasting change. As you know, at the core of FAMM’s work is our commitment to a non-partisan approach to policymaking. As President, I am excited to work with diverse groups to make meaningful strides towards improving oversight in our prisons, promoting second chances, reforming our sentencing laws, and ensuring that all mandatory minimum sentences are eliminated.
I am incredibly proud to join FAMM and grateful for the support of our donors, partners, and family advocates. I look forward to working with FAMM—and you, friends—on bringing true criminal justice reform to our nation’s justice system. I am truly honored to continue this crucial work alongside you.
If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to reach out to me at [email protected] [[email protected]] .
Best,
