John—We wanted to circle back on Mondaire’s last message.
We’re witnessing the impact of our climate crisis in real time. It’s going to take a massive, collective movement to meet the moment this existential crisis requires. Mondaire needs you by his side. Call on Congress to take up urgent climate action to protect our health, our communities, and our future. ----------Begin Forwarded Message----------- Sender: Mondaire Jones Subject: Not tomorrow, not five years from now. Right Now. Date: Tuesday, Feb 20, 2024 Team—The climate crisis is here, and its impact on people in the Lower Hudson Valley is already severe. Last year was officially the hottest year on record, and New York suffered the worst air quality since the 1960s after being engulfed in smoke from the raging wildfires in Canada. Across the nation, one in four Americans breathe air considered unhealthy as a direct result of the climate crisis. We’ve seen a five-fold increase since 2000 in the number of days unsafe for our children to play outside. Congress has a moral obligation to meet this moment and act now. But, for decades, Republicans—backed by billions in lobbying from the fossil fuel industry—denied the climate crisis, calling it a hoax. In fact, many Republicans, including Mike Lawler, still do. Not surprising for someone who was an oil and gas lobbyist. We cannot bury our heads in the sand any longer. Unless we act now, the consequences of the climate crisis will be irreversible. Add your name to join me in calling on Congress to meet this moment and prioritize urgent climate action—not in five years, not tomorrow—NOW. This is personal to me. As a millennial, I share the burden of young people worried about whether we will have a habitable planet on which to live. That’s why I fought for (and passed) the Inflation Reduction Act—the largest climate action the United States has ever taken—to lower renewable energy costs and create millions of green jobs over the next decade. But this moment demands even bolder action. When I return to Congress, I will be ready on day one to roll up my sleeves and tackle this existential crisis by making greater investments in green infrastructure, decarbonizing our economy, and more. Add your name to join me in calling on Congress to take urgent climate action now and deliver a healthy, habitable future for generations to come. Yours in the fight, Mondaire
