[link removed] [[link removed]] John, you can't swear an oath to defend the Constitution one day, and then participate in insurrection the next.

But that's apparently exactly what Doug Mastriano did.

Doug Mastriano is a state senator from Pennsylvania who spent thousands of dollars in campaign funds to mobilize and transport Trump supporters to Washington, D.C. on January 6th, played a pivotal role in the fake electors scheme, and personally joined the mob within the restricted area of the Capitol grounds during the insurrection.

There’s a strong case that Doug Mastriano is disqualified from holding public office under Section 3 of the 14th Amendment.

Doug Mastriano is already facing an ethics complaint over his involvement in January 6th. Now he should be investigated for engaging in insurrection and, if allegations are substantiated, held accountable by the Pennsylvania Senate, up to and including expulsion from office. The Constitution demands it.

Expelling an elected official, even for planning, aiding and participating in an insurrection, is a serious step. But accountability for those who engaged in the insurrection on January 6th is our country’s best path forward.

Our democracy demands that state legislatures examine whether members like Doug Mastriano are unfit to serve in the democracy they sought to overthrow.

Only by holding insurrectionists accountable can we hope to prevent future violent attacks on the U.S. Capitol and in state capitals like Harrisburg.
