The warning signs were there, and our government should have been more prepared.

Yet unbelievably when the coronavirus (Covid-19) arrived in America we were not
ready to deal with the global pandemic. And as heroic health workers battle to
control the virus, the lack of testing kits, masks and life saving ventilators
only adds to the crisis.

In this time of national uncertainty it is imperative that Congress immediately
pass long overdue paid sick leave legislation that protects all American workers. Sign this petition and demand that Congress pass comprehensive paid sick leave
for all who need it.

The lack of foresight by the federal government to prepare for Covid-19 is
unconscionable and it underscores another unfolding crisis - mass financial
insecurity and ruin. Health experts warn that extreme social distancing measures
and self isolation is the only way to lessen the curve of infection. But how can
we expect workers to risk the prospect of losing their paychecks and possibly
their livelihoods? More than ever, everyone needs to know that by protecting
their health and the health of the nation they will not put themselves and their
families in financial risk.

Demand with us that Congress immediately pass paid sick leave legislation that
protects the entire workforce.

As a climate organization, we at the Chesapeake Climate Action Network (CCAN)
Action Fund understand the importance of preventing a crisis BEFORE it happens.
We've we made it our mission to push for smart climate legislation today, rather
than wait until it is too late to make the necessary changes needed to secure a
livable planet.

The coronavirus global pandemic and its economic fallout is not unlike the
global climate crisis. Preventative measures made today — rather than inaction and denial — are the best possible strategy. That is why we are demanding that Congress immediately pass paid sick leave
legislation for all workers as soon as possible.

Sign this petition and tell Congress to help all communities across the country
by passing comprehensive paid sick leave legislation that protects everyone.

The Families First Coronavirus Response Act passed by the House passed last week
is a start, but includes sick pay provisions for only about 20% of the workforce
and does not apply to those who work in companies of 500 workers or more. And
yesterday’s Senate bipartisan agreement on a $2 trillion emergency relief
package to address the coronavirus — which gives some workers paid leave — still
leaves out millions of people vulnerable to disease and financial ruin. In this
crisis, no one can be left behind.

It has never been more clear that ignoring the plight of the vulnerable puts the
entire nation is at risk. Inaction leads to devastation. Demand with us that
protections are put in place for all residents in America. Sign this petition today.
