How the federal income tax system can worsen racial disparities
The federal income tax system can be a powerful agent for reducing racial inequities. But it often falls short of supporting the prosperity of all families.


Federal income tax policies and practices could do more. In this feature, researchers explore four key issues in the tax code and potential changes. Reforms to the child tax credit, capital gains tax, and other policies could better equip the federal income tax system to advance racial equity.
