March at the National Constitution Center March at the Museum Women's History Month Friday, March 1–Sunday, March 31 Throughout Women’s History Month, the Center recognizes extraordinary American women throughout the nation’s history. Celebrate Women’s History Month by viewing our exhibit, The 19th Amendment: How Women Won the Vote. This exhibit traces the triumphs and struggles that led to the ratification of the 19th Amendment, and features some of the many women who transformed constitutional history—including Ida B. Wells, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Mabel Ping Hua Lee, and Alice Paul—and allows visitors to better understand the long fight for women’s suffrage. Special programs at the Center include: The Four Harriets of History program Remember the Ladies trivia Suffragist story corner Votes for Women crafts and more! LEARN MORE The First Amendment: New York Times v. Sullivan Educator Event Thursday, March 14 5:30 p.m. ET to attend in-person 6:30 p.m. ET to attend online Educators are invited to join us in exploring this landmark freedom-of-the-press Supreme Court case and discover its importance to the Civil Rights Movement. The first 50 registrants/attendees receive a free copy of the new book Actual Malice: Civil Rights and Freedom of the Press in New York Times v. Sullivan. Registration for the in-person program begins at 5:30 p.m. and includes tours of the National Constitution Center's newest exhibit, The First Amendment, a screening of the film NY Times v. Sullivan, and a teacher-led discussion on incorporating these materials into the classroom. There will also be refreshments served and time to network with other local-area teachers. Those registering to stream the program will be able to view the screening and the teacher-led discussion, starting at 6:30 p.m. ET. REGISTER HERE Sensory Friendly Day Sunday, March 24 The National Constitution Center offers Sensory-Friendly Days to create an accessible learning experience for people of all abilities and their families while providing visitors with sensory processing challenges the opportunity to experience the museum in a secure and comfortable environment. Sensory-Friendly Days incorporate modified programming, specialized staff training, and emotionally safe spaces for families—including a room with a variety of sensory objects for visitors to use, comfortable seating, and cool blue lighting that creates a calming atmosphere. LEARN MORE Winter Warm Up: Now through Sunday, March 24, enjoy discounted admission of $15 for adults (usually $19) and $12 for youth ages 6-18 (usually $15). Learn more Book Your Group Field Trips and Group Visits Inspire, inform, and engage your group with a visit to the National Constitution Center. The museum experience includes six signature attractions: The First Amendment: In our newest exhibit, discover how the First Amendment protects our most cherished freedoms—religious liberty, free speech, a free press, the freedom of assembly, and the right to petition—and how it impacts us today. Freedom Rising: This multimedia theater-in-the-round performance connects visitors in an inspiring, unforgettable way with the story of the U.S. Constitution and its ongoing role in our lives. The Story of We the People: This hands-on exhibit illuminates America’s constitutional history through innovative exhibits, films, photographs, rare artifacts, and engaging activities led by our education staff. Signers’ Hall: Sign the Constitution alongside 42 life-size, bronze statues of the Founding Fathers. Civil War and Reconstruction: Learn how constitutional clashes over slavery set the stage for the Civil War, and how the nation transformed the Constitution after the war during the Reconstruction period, taking a particularly close look at the 13th, 14th, and 15th Amendments. The 19th Amendment: Explore the long fight for women’s suffrage and discover the stories of the many women who transformed constitutional history.
