Jack, Daily Kos is facing a financial crunch and we don't have some billionaire backer with deep pockets who can bail us out.

And you know what? That's not really a bad thing.

Not relying on a billionaire backer means there's no one who can control what we say. We don't rely on corporate sponsors that come with their own agenda, or some big vulture capitalist group that only cares about the bottom line and shareholders returns.

Our largest source of income to power our work comes from grassroots donations of just a few dollars at a time. That makes us accountable to you—our community of readers and activists—not to some billionaire or corporation with their own agenda. We know that in order to keep operating, we have to fight and deliver for what you believe in.

That's why I am asking for your help, Jack: Daily Kos needs to raise another $109,529 by the end of February. If we can't reach this goal, we will have to make further budget cuts that would affect the quality of our work.
