John — As we celebrate Black History Month, we want to recognize the contributions of Black immigrants and, in particular, Black immigrant domestic workers.
Mariama is one of our members and a Black immigrant domestic worker from the Caribbean, who worked long hours and faced wage theft, and harassment at work.
Her story is defined by her perseverance, hope, and the quest for dignity in the face of enormous challenges. This quest has extended to ensure other domestic workers don’t suffer the same injustices.
Black immigrant domestic workers like Mariama live at the intersection of racial, economic, and immigration injustices.
Though Black immigrant domestic workers contribute immensely to the economy and the well-being of American families, they frequently encounter barriers to fair wages, safe working conditions, and respect for their rights – and NDWA is committed to changing that.
Black Futures Month is a visionary iteration of the celebrations of Blackness in February, and through our We Dream in Black initiative we are working to build a future where all domestic workers are included in labor laws, protected from abusive conditions in the workplace, and paid the fair wages that they deserve.
This Black History/Black Futures Month, stand in solidarity with Mariama and other Black immigrant domestic workers by signing our pledge and committing to advocate for their rights and recognize their invaluable contributions to our society.

We focus on shifting the narrative about Black domestic workers across home care, childcare and housecleaning sectors, while developing the leadership of our base and raising the floor in the care industry through political action.
At WeDiB, our goal is to transform the domestic work industry, center collective care and disrupt the systemic and systematic harms that impact the lives of all Black women and domestic workers.
We believe a better future is possible, one in which Black women and caregivers experience abundant joy, safety and well-being – and your grassroots support is the fuel that can get us there.
