Dear John,

On October 7, 2023, Hamas terrorists attacked Israel. Over a thousand victims were killed, and hundreds of others were wounded, raped, and kidnapped.

According to recent reports, at least 12 employees of United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) "actively participated" in the attack, and at least another 30 were involved. In addition, nearly 200 UNRWA employees are operatives of Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad, and approximately 1,200 have ties to Hamas. The evidence suggests that UNRWA's legitimacy as a relief agency is critically compromised.

That's why Family Research Council Action (FRC Action) is supporting legislation to permanently end all funding for UNRWA. We stand with Israel and will continue to expose antisemitism and speak out against it.

Sign the petition below in support of Rep. Chris Smith's Stop Support for UNRWA Act of 2024, which would prohibit U.S. aid to UNRWA:

On October 7th, 2023, the world witnessed the bloody consequences of antisemitism as Hamas terrorists attacked Israel, killing over a thousand and wounding, raping, and kidnapping hundreds. Recent reports from Israeli intelligence officials confirm at least 12 of United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) employees were involved in the attack.

UNRWA was complicit in the Hamas attacks on Israel. Beyond the 12 UNRWA employees that participated in the attacks, at least another 30 provided assistance, and nearly 200 UNRWA employees are operatives for Hamas or Islamic Jihad. Additionally, approximately 1,200 UNRWA employees are linked to Hamas. UNRWA schools in Israel have promoted jihadist ideology to children. It is quite possible that some of the children from these schools participated in these attacks on Israel.

Under President Trump, the United States cut off funding for UNRWA, however, under President Biden at least $1 billion of U.S. taxpayer money has been sent to UNRWA. These funds were made available to UNRWA even though UN Watch reported that UNRWA schools were complicit in promoting Hamas’ antisemitic propaganda to children.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu agreed saying that these schools teach “the doctrines of the extermination of Israel – the doctrines of terrorism, lauding terrorism, glorifying terrorism.”

Before the Biden administration, historically the United States was Israel’s closest ally. It is unconscionable that US taxpayer dollars would fund UNRWA’s promotion of antisemitism in the Middle East. Because of the concerning reports, US funding for UNRWA was paused. However, it is not enough to merely pause UNRWA funding; it must be stopped entirely. The United States must send a clear message to the United Nations and the world that antisemitism will not be tolerated.

We applaud Rep. Chris Smith for introducing H.R. 7122, the Stop Support for UNRWA Act.

We urge Congress to support this important bill and end UNRWA funding.
