Sometimes it feels like a game of Whac-A-Mole when you’re grocery shopping.
You pick up a container of hummus and flip it over to read the ingredients.
WAM!
Soybean oil.
You pick up a bottle of salad dressing and flip it over to read the ingredients.
BAM!
Canola oil.
You pick up a jar of mayo and flip it over to read the ingredients.
WAM!
Soybean oil.
What gives??
It’s a losing battle and the food industry is winning BIG.
Soybean Oil and Canola Oil are a couple of the worst ingredients in our food… and you’ll find them in just about everything, even organic products.
You may have heard these oils are good for you, and you may even have a bottle of Smart Balance or Wesson in your kitchen.
I don’t blame you.
The Big Food and Farming industries have spent big bucks to convince the public that these oils are healthy, but much of it is based on research studies that they fund themselves.
After you hear the truth you will avoid them like the plague. Here’s why:
As soon as I found this out, I got rid of my big bottle of canola oil and replaced it with healthy oils.
Here’s what I cook with now:
COCONUT OIL – The tropical saturated fat in coconut oil is made up of medium-chain triglycerides (MCT), which is shown to reduce cholesterol and obesity. Virgin unrefined coconut oil withstands temperatures up to about 350 degrees, so it’s great for most baking and medium-high heat sauteing.
EXTRA VIRGIN OLIVE OIL – There’s fraud going on, and some brands are mixed with unlabeled GMO oils (like soybean oil), so it’s important to find a brand you trust. I like Nuñez De Prado brand and use it to make my own salad dressings and other cold applications and some baking.
GRASS-FED BUTTER & GHEE – Ghee is a clarified butter doesn’t contain dairy proteins or sugars, so it works well for high heat cooking.
AVOCADO OIL – This is another option for high heat cooking. There’s fraud here too. Make sure to choose a brand like Chosen Foods or Marianne's Avocado Oil, which have been shown to be authentic. Unfortunately, these are not organic.
And don’t forget to check the products you are buying and look for alternatives that are made with these healthier oils too.
It can be hard, I know!
But we can change this.
Food companies will keep putting canola and soybean oil in their products as long as people keep buying them.
I believe that most people would demand these companies to change if they only knew the truth.
We can make a huge difference in what we see in stores if we tell everyone we know about this!
Here’s an easy way to do it:
If you are on social media, please share this post on Instagram and Facebook.
Forward this email to your friends and family and ask them to subscribe to this email newsletter.
You can also send a quick note to big food brands and fast food restaurants, asking them to change to healthy oils instead.
This is how we change the world!
Thank you for helping to get the word out, Food Babe Army!
