John, I’m not your typical elected official…

The majority of elected officials are well over 50 years old. I’m 30 years old.

The majority of elected officials are white. I’m a South Asian Muslim.

The majority of elected officials are men. I’m a woman.

And the majority of elected officials are not mothers… I’m a mother of one with a second baby on the way!

John, it’s no secret that I do not look or sound like the average politician… And while no one that looked like me ever served North Carolina before, that didn’t stop me from running and serving Durham.
