Friend,
Often, you’ll hear elected officials say that a budget is a values document.
People will run their mouths all day, every day, about what matters to them, but their true beliefs shine through where they prioritize or deprioritize funding.
So, let’s take a look at a few of Republicans’ funding proposals in 2023:
*
Across
the
board
cuts
to
every
program
in
the
agriculture
appropriations
bill

including
cutting
Supplemental
Nutrition
Assistance
Program
(SNAP)
benefits
for
an
estimated
1.3
million
low-income
Americans,
including
veterans.
*
Drastic
cuts
to
the
U.S.
Housing
and
Urban
Development
Department,
which
would
eliminate
17,000
units
of
affordable
housing
development
during
a
historic
housing
affordability
crisis.
*
Eliminate
funding
for
2024’s
“Healthy
Start”
prenatal
care
program,
which
is
working
to
solve
the
Black
maternal
health
crisis

Black
women
are
currently
2.6
times
more
likely
to
die
from
pregnancy-related
complications
than
white
women.
If a budget is a values document, what does this say about our current Republican party?
Democrats, on the other hand, sing a different tune.
In 2023, our party brought new proposals to the table to target hunger, homelessness, and the Black maternal health crisis – but with our position in the minority, we can only fight against the harm Republicans are working to cause. We need a majority to pass the legislation that would make a difference. [[link removed]]
SUPPORT HOUSE DEMOCRATS [[link removed]]
Last week, Representative Tom Suozzi won his race in NY-3 and got the Democrats one vote closer to winning back our majority. Next is November, when we have the chance to get our majority back and pass legislation to bolster our working families.
I hope you can chip in today and support my work helping Democrats across New York win their races and take back the House. [[link removed]]
