Jack, I sometimes worry that I come off like the boy (or in my case, the girl) who cried wolf when I write these fundraising emails. However, the fact is that Daily Kos has been struggling financially for a couple of years.

The big problem is that Big Tech like Facebook, Google, and Apple, often control the traffic driven to news sites—like Daily Kos. On top of being gatekeepers to readers, Big Tech is also taking a larger and larger portion of the digital advertising revenue—which at one time was Daily Kos's largest source of revenue to fuel our work.

Last year, we were forced to make deep budget cuts and other changes in hopes of finding more sustainable financial ground. This year isn't shaping up to be any better.

It has become abundantly clear that in order to survive these hard times, we need to rely more and more on grassroots donations from our readers and activists.

We need to raise $112,130 by the end of the month. I am worried that if Daily Kos can't reach our fundraising goals now, we will not have the resources when we need them the most: preparing for the upcoming elections. Jack, please support our work with a donation of $5 or more today.
