Jack,
First and foremost, I hope that you and your family are safe and are taking every precaution to protect yourselves and others according to official guidelines.
These are scary, unprecedented times, and no one in this country should be risking their health or life to exercise their right to vote.
The actions we take right now to ensure vote-by-mail and absentee voting are accessible are critical to both upcoming primaries and the 2020 general election.
As I write this to you, Democrats and Republicans have passed a bill that provides baseline vote-by-mail election funding during this crisis. Let me be clear: It is not enough. In New Mexico alone, it will cover only up to 75% of what is needed for the primary election.
Any further stimulus funding the federal government passes must include sufficient funds for absentee voting and vote-by-mail. Our leaders must do more to prioritize our democracy along with the long-term health of our economy, or we risk further voter suppression and inaccessibility to the ballot around this country.
At this moment in time, we need federal leaders to come together to allot more funding for our elections in the light of this crisis. Add your name—if 1000 supporters from this team join me, we can send a message to Washington that we will not accept anything less.
