Extreme Republicans want to criminalize librarians for simply having books available for children to read.
This isn’t happening solely in Alabama either. Other states, including another Groundwork state West Virginia, have similar legislation in the works targeting librarians.

Not only are these attacks yet another attempt to control and vilify communities Republicans are scared of — book bans typically impact stories written by and about people of color and LGBTQ+ people — but they also completely disregard the thankless role libraries serve as community resources.
From providing a space to learn, to hosting events, to loaning out tools and technology, librarians play a crucial role in our lives and don’t deserve to be made into another scapegoat for the GOP.
