Holland Park Roundabout and Shepherd’s Bush Green is a dangerous and challenging area, and a known accident hotspot! Many residents have said the junction needs changes, and having proper community engagement, comment, and critique for the proposal is vital.
That’s why it is so disappointing to see that the consultation was immediately politicised by local Conservative politicians, including the Kensington MP and West Central Assembly Member.
They have both attempted to provoke opposition against the proposals by making them all and only about cyclists and by stoking more ‘culture war’ rhetoric.
Sadly, neither seems to be interested in listening to what residents have to say about the scheme or letting people express their views through the consultation process currently underway. |
Pedestrian and cyclist safety is a significant issue for both Kensington & Chelsea and Hammersmith & Fulham Boroughs. More than 9 people are killed or seriously injured on our roads EVERY MONTH in each borough(1). Ideas to improve safety on our streets are therefore vital! |
Making active travel easier and safer and the use of public transport more reliable is something I wholeheartedly support
and is critical to addressing air quality issues.
The Conservative-run Kensington & Chelsea Council says this is one of their priorities too, but has sadly seemed unwilling to engage constructively with TfL’s proposed changes. Is the proposed scheme perfect? Most likely not, but
it delivers genuine and real safety improvements for pedestrians and cyclists that are desperately needed there and is a good starting point.
I would encourage all residents, whether you approve of the current proposals or not, to have your say and fill in TfL Consultation |
PS: Don't forget - the consultation ends on the 3rd of March! (1) Source: TfL Road Collusion: GLA data extract - casualty (severity = fatal & serious only) |
