Abortion is essential health care that cannot be delayed.
Email from Physicians for Reproductive Health

Dear John,

As I write to you, opponents of abortion are exploiting the COVID-19 public health crisis in an attempt to eliminate abortion access. It’s unconscionable.

I want you to know that we are actively monitoring these developments and rapidly mobilizing our advocates. In Texas, a group of abortion providers—represented by our friends at Planned Parenthood, the Center for Reproductive Rights, and the Lawyering Project—filed an emergency lawsuit to keep essential, time-sensitive abortion services available in the state.

Abortion is essential health care that cannot be delayed. Decisions we make every day about our reproductive health do not stop during a pandemic.

My colleagues and I across the country are committed to providing patients with the health care they need, including abortion care. Adjustments have been made to maintain social distancing, provide health care via telemedicine if available, and we are utilizing the personal protective equipment necessary.

In the face of a public health crisis, it is our duty to continue serving patients. We're fighting against barriers to health care that unequally impact people of color, people with low incomes, LGBTQIA people, immigrants, people with disabilities, young people, and people in rural communities.

Our elected officials should not be undermining this important work.

John, our work together must continue. We need you to stick with us through these uncertain times and we’ll keep advocating for the essential reproductive health care every one of us deserves.

Be safe, be healthy, and thank you for your support.

Sincerely,
