I’m Christina, Talent Acquisition Coordinator at The Humane League. What with Valentine’s Day and all, I know this can be a tough month. So I wanted to share a personal story about how a friend—who also happened to be a pig—helped me through a difficult time.
Georgie the pig is wondering if you might consider making a gift to help animals like him.
Every week, I volunteer for a wonderful animal sanctuary. My favorite resident there is a pig named Georgie. He won’t always let you come near him... but secretly, he wants love. (You know the type.)
Well, last year I was going through a difficult breakup. When I got to the sanctuary and saw Georgie, he must have sensed what I was feeling—because he started crying, making high-pitched squeaking sounds.
Before that, I had no idea pigs could cry. It felt like Georgie was feeling my sadness with me, just like a friend would. So of course, I started crying. For the next few minutes, we sat together in a sad hug until we felt better. We’ve had an unbreakable bond ever since.
Have you ever been comforted by an animal? I really believe they’re some of the most supportive friends we can have. And every day, I’m so thankful to be able to make a difference in the lives of animals like Georgie.
One thing I appreciate about The Humane League is our focus on urgent, tangible change to improve the lives of animals. We have clear goals and clear strategies to achieve them. Our team is fighting for legislative change around the country. Pressuring companies to end cruel cages. Building an unstoppable movement for compassion, all around the globe.
Whether you’re able to donate, take digital actions, or simply support this work—thank you so much for being here for animals. After all, they’re always here for us. ❤️
For them,
