$1 million. That’s how much Republican investment banker Sandy Pensler gave his campaign in December alone.

And he’s already implied that there’s more to come. In an interview, Pensler said he’ll spend “what’s needed” to win Michigan’s open Senate seat. And he’s got the record to back up that promise: In 2018, Pensler spent more than $5 million in a failed bid for the Senate, when he narrowly lost the Republican primary to John James.

And he’s not the only one: Peter Meijer, who is from one of nine billionaire families in Michigan, gave his Senate campaign over $100,000 just to get started. In the past, he’s given his campaigns for Congress over $1.6 million.

Here’s the thing about mega-wealthy self-funders—they can give their campaigns a million here and a million there, at the drop of a hat.

But our campaign doesn’t work that way (and honestly, can’t!) We’re powered by regular folks, not personal fortunes, and that’s reflected in our values and our priorities. To run our campaign, we rely on thousands of individuals like you, responding to emails like these and chipping in a few bucks, or whatever you can spare.

Will you chip in to help Elissa defeat self-funders with unlimited cash reserves like Sandy Pensler and Peter Meijer?
