Dear John,

The coronavirus pandemic has gripped the country and ground the globe to a halt.

Even though the Senate unanimously passed a $2 trillion emergency relief package last night — which, notably, included a $500 billion slush fund for corporations with no worker protections and dismally weak restrictions on stock buybacks and executive pay — the crisis is rapidly spiraling out of control thanks to the Trump administration’s disastrous response.

Governors and local officials are desperately trying to contain the outbreak with little to no support from the federal government, and virtually every day Trump takes to the podium to spread lies and misinformation.

This pandemic has laid bare the full ineptitude of the Trump administration and the unequal power dynamics of our system.

When I co-founded Inequality Media Civic Action, I had one goal in mind: educate the public with the truth.

That mission has never been more important than it is now, as our ego-driven liar-in-chief is actively putting countless American lives at risk to boost the stock market.

Since this crisis began, we have ramped up our operation, even from quarantine, to make sure every American knows the full truth about this pandemic, exactly how Trump has spectacularly failed to guide us through it, and most importantly, what needs to be done to address this national emergency now.

We’ve been working overtime to demand our lawmakers put workers before corporations, people before profits, and public health before stock market gains.

But we need to do even more.

We are up against a lot. This is the most dangerously incompetent administration I have ever experienced, and their deliberate mishandling of this crisis will cost lives. It already has.

I didn’t want to send this email. I didn’t want to ask you for money at a time like this.

But the truth is, our message is making an impact and reaching millions of people who need answers during this uncertain time.

So, if you can, please donate today.

Anything you can give will help us expose Trump’s failures in this crisis, and educate the public about what Washington needs to do to flatten the curve and ensure every American has what they need to survive this.

I understand this is a big ask in a time like this. But know this: Every dollar you give gets stretched to the max so we can ramp up our remote operation and keep getting the truth out to the American people.

It would be easy to retreat and feel hopeless right now, but there’s one thing that’s keeping us going: you.

We want to use this moment to churn out as much information as possible, so we started going live across all social media platforms, multiple times a week.

Your feedback suggests we need to be doing even more right now:
  • “Please keep these coming. You explain everything so clearly. Taking us right into the classroom when we’re all seeking answers.” — Shermaine M.
  • “Thank you for your insight during these uncertain times. Please do continue these online sessions! Your knowledge is vital, particularly now.” — Diane H.
  • “Your information is extremely useful and helpful to me. Thank you and your team for offering a voice of reason in these chaotic times.” — Jacqueline P.
  • “Would love to see these sessions throughout the weeks and months ahead. Information is changing quickly enough to warrant frequent check-ins, and your advice is invaluable.” — Joby M.
Can you contribute today to help us ramp up our remote operation?

With your support, we’re going to continue not only doing live sessions, but also producing more rapid response videos from my living room — so that we can disseminate as much information as possible during these trying times for our country and world.

This organization is made up of a dedicated skeleton crew which puts every single dollar to good use. To hear that our livestreams and videos are making an impact and resonating so strongly with the public in such uncertain times means we need to be doing more than we ever have.

With your help, that’s exactly what we’re going to do.

On behalf of all of us here at Inequality Media Civic Action, thank you for inspiring us to keep spreading the truth and educating the public.

We couldn’t do this without you,
Robert Reich
