Dear John,
NDN is pleased to invite you to a COVID briefing with Dr. Rob Shapiro tomorrow at 2pm, focusing specifically on the economic consequences of this crisis and how recent actions by Congress and the Fed will affect America's economy.
Rob is a long-time contributor to NDN and was the Undersecretary of Commerce for Economic Affairs in the Clinton Administration. He was a senior economic advisor to Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama, and John Kerry in their presidential campaigns, and is currently the Chairman of Sonecon LLC, an economic and security policy consultancy.
The briefing will take place on Zoom and will last for 30 minutes. If you would like to attend, please register at this link. Once you register, you will find a link to the briefing location on Zoom that will go live at 2pm tomorrow.
As background, Rob published a new piece in The Washington Monthly this morning that examines what a long-term economic recovery plan would look like in the face of several different scenarios of the coronavirus's severity. He also wrote a piece in The Washington Post discussing how the magnitude of this economic shock will likely overwhelm the tools available to the Fed, and will require significantly stepped-up fiscal stimulus and public health efforts. Finally, NDN also published a piece last week that discusses how Congress should develop its fiscal stimulus plan in response to this crisis.
Sincerely,
Chris
