Friends, my opponent has had a lot to say about me lately. I’m well aware that part of running for public office is discussing the stakes and drawing important contrasts between the people on the ballot – we do plenty of that here, too. But I want to break down some of his main talking points.
From what I’ve seen, he’s got two:
- I’m a Democrat.
- I’m a young woman which, in his mind, means I haven’t done much.
(If that’s as absurd to you as it is to me, I hope you’ll consider donating to my re-election campaign today to help make sure we defeat this guy in November.)
Anyway – the first point, I’ll give him. I’m proud to be a Democrat and to fight for the values of our party – that everyone deserves a fair shot at success no matter where you come from or what you look like; that health care, including abortion care, is a human right; that our nation’s diversity is our strength; that future generations deserve a safe, livable planet; and that our democracy is worth defending.
As for the second… Well, it’s true that I’m a woman, and it’s true that I’m young – I’m certainly younger than he is, and I’m younger than most of my colleagues in Congress too. But I take issue with that being framed as a bad thing, and I absolutely
take issue with the assertion that being young means I’m somehow lazy or unaccomplished. Millennials are used to being infantilized and condescended to – despite the fact that we’re already the largest generation in the American workforce and by 2025, we’ll make up 75% of it.
So let me lay it out for my opponent. Since I was elected in 2020, House Democrats have passed the American Rescue Plan, which led to the strongest jobs recovery ever on record and the most equitable economic recovery our country has seen. We passed historic infrastructure legislation that is not only repairing our country’s roads and bridges, it’s also expanding access to clean drinking water and high-speed internet. We passed the first major gun safety bill in decades
. We passed the Inflation Reduction Act that’s helping lower costs for people all across the country and includes the most comprehensive action on climate in U.S. history.
And I’m just getting started.
Aside from all of that landmark legislation (made possible by electing Democrats!), I’ve introduced bills to protect data privacy, ensure military families have access to safe and affordable housing, lower child care costs, prevent drug shortages, address veteran homelessness, support new moms in Congress, protect human rights and the LGBTQ+ community around the world… The list goes on.
If my opponent has a problem with young women, he should just say that.
(And by the way, if he wants a better example of people doing nothing, he should take a closer look at his own party.)
In the meantime, I’m going to keep working as hard as I can every single day to improve the lives of my constituents and people all across the country. If you’re with me, I hope you’ll help make sure I defeat my opponent – and show him just how powerful young Democratic women can be. Donate any amount to my re-election campaign today to help us win big this November.
Thank you – it means a lot to me to have this team working alongside me in the fight for a better future!
